The Quick Version
- There is no BET Hip Hop Awards show in October 2026. BET suspended it indefinitely in August 2025, and the last one aired in 2024.
- The Soul Train Awards do return: Friday, Nov. 27, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET and, for the first time, CBS.
- Circle Oct. 23: new albums from Anderson .Paak and Cordae together, plus John Legend’s Pharrell-produced Muse.
- Wu-Tang Clan enters the Rock Hall Nov. 14, and Queen Latifah and MC Lyte are honored too. The TV special airs on ABC in December.
If you have been searching for the BET Hip Hop Awards 2026 date, here is the straight answer: there is no show this October. For the second straight fall, the cypher, the ceremony and the arguments the next morning are on pause. But hip-hop and R&B are not taking the season off. Between new albums, a Soul Train comeback and a Rock Hall class with real hip-hop weight, the next six weeks are loaded.
What happened to the BET Hip Hop Awards?
BET announced on Aug. 6, 2025, that the Hip Hop Awards and the Soul Train Awards were suspended indefinitely, Okayplayer reported. CEO Scott Mills pointed to ratings and money, noting that “the cable ecosystem is smaller today than it was a year ago.” He framed it as a rethink, not a funeral, saying the network was considering where the shows might live next, including streaming.
The last BET Hip Hop Awards was taped in Las Vegas on Oct. 8, 2024, and aired Oct. 15, with Fat Joe hosting, according to the show’s history. As of Sept. 29, 2026, BET had announced no 2026 edition, no nominees and no host. If that changes, BET’s own channels will be the first place to see it.
The comeback: Soul Train Awards on BET and CBS
Here is the twist. One of the two suspended shows is back. The Soul Train Awards return Friday, Nov. 27, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, the day after Thanksgiving, per Paramount’s announcement. The show comes from Chicago, where Don Cornelius launched Soul Train more than 50 years ago.
- Where to watch: BET, CBS (its first time carrying the show), BET Her, VH1, MTV2 and Logo.
- New format: a pre-taped show from Chicago with what BET calls a bold new format, blending legacy honorees with the artists carrying the sound forward, REVOLT reported. The last ceremony was in 2023, hosted by Keke Palmer.
- Partners: Spotify is the exclusive music streaming partner, which the network says is meant to help artists reach fans well beyond the broadcast itself.
- Still unknown: the 2026 host and honorees had not been announced as of Sept. 29. Watch BET’s channels for updates.
For hip-hop heads, the takeaway is simple: BET brought back an R&B and soul show first. Whether the Hip Hop Awards get the same second life is still an open question.

The biggest hip-hop and R&B albums of October 2026
HotNewHipHop called October a light month for rap albums, so the headliners are mostly collaborations and R&B. Dates can shift, so double-check your streaming app before release night.
Already out
- Victoria Monét, Frequency of Love (Oct. 2). Her follow-up to the Grammy-winning Jaguar II, out on Lovett Music/RCA, features SZA, Bruno Mars, Leon Thomas, Bryson Tiller, Chlöe and Lucky Daye, per The Source.
- Quavo, QRÖMELIFE (Oct. 2). Pharrell executive produced, and the single “Backwards” pairs two Atlanta generations with T.I., per The Source.
- Lalah Hathaway, Made in Chicago (Oct. 1). Her ninth album, released on what would have been her father Donny Hathaway’s 81st birthday, per Rated R&B.
- Joyce Wrice, Machiko (Oct. 9). Her second album, with production from D’Mile and Jay Versace, per Rated R&B.
- Also out: Meshell Ndegeocello’s Synonym (Oct. 2) and Dawn Richard’s Creole Culture (Oct. 9), per Rated R&B’s release calendar. If you are catching up, the same calendar lists Tinashe’s Popstar and Leon Bridges’ Happiness Anytime, both from Sept. 25.
Coming up
- K. Michelle, Jesus & Whiskey (Oct. 16). Her first country album, produced by Sugarland’s Kristian Bush. She told theGrio, “I’m not an artist doing a country album.”
- Anderson .Paak and Cordae, Heavy Is the Crown (Oct. 23). Their first full album together after years of one-off collabs, per NME.
- John Legend, Muse (Oct. 23). Produced entirely by Pharrell, with Clipse on “Bodies on the Floor,” per Universal Music. It is a hard left turn from his piano ballads.
One wild card: HotNewHipHop’s tentative list had songs from Drake’s FOMO slated for Oct. 1, not a confirmed full album. Check Drake’s official channels for what, if anything, actually landed.
Big hip-hop moments beyond the albums
Wu-Tang Clan goes into the Rock Hall. The 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony is Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Wu-Tang Clan, Sade and Luther Vandross are inducted as performers, and Queen Latifah, MC Lyte and Fela Kuti receive the Early Influence Award, per the Rock Hall. The ceremony debuts in December on ABC and Disney+.
Grammy season is live right now. First-round voting for the 2027 Grammys runs Oct. 12 to 22, and nominations drop Monday, Nov. 16, per the Recording Academy. Music released between Aug. 31, 2025, and Aug. 28, 2026, is eligible, so the October albums above are aiming for 2028. The show itself airs Feb. 7, 2027, on ABC, its first time on that network since 1972. For fans, the practical move is to watch the rap and R&B categories on Nov. 16 and see which 2026 albums the voters actually rewarded.
How to make your own hip-hop awards night
No show? Run your own. It is a better group chat than a broadcast anyway.
- Pick five categories: best album, best feature, best verse, best video and best comeback.
- Only count music released from Jan. 1 to Oct. 15, 2026, so the debates stay fair.
- Build a shared playlist of every nominee and give everyone a week to vote.
- Crown the winners the night of Nov. 16 and compare your picks with the Grammy nominees.
